SC Ports Authority (SCPA) owns and operates public seaport and intermodal facilities in Charleston, Greer, Dillon, and Georgetown. Our 900+ employees handle cargo, operate and maintain cargo handling equipment, manage port facilities and operations, and support the port system in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.


Job Summary

The assignment is scheduled for May 22nd through July 28th, 2023. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. We prefer students currently in their Junior or Senior year working toward a bachelor’s degree in an Internet Technology related major. Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and time management skills are necessary. Assists with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SCPA workstations and handheld devices, including some telecommunications issues.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Complete outstanding work orders in a timely fashion. Maintain a good line of communication with both users and team members.
  • Build workstations and laptops in accordance with our current standards and practices.
  • Assist with telecommunications issues, such as new phone, iPhone, or iPad installations
  • Under the direction of the manager and team members, update documentation for troubleshooting, training, and inventory of SCPA assets
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of equipment with service vendors
  • Create quotes for new equipment requests
  • Assist with Conference Room Support

  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Assist employees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
  • High school diploma and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with upperclassman status.
  • A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority-owned licensed motor vehicle. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push and pull
  • Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks
  • Hearing is required to adequately perform telecommunication functions
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly with co-workers
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, and view a computer monitor screen
