SC Ports Authority (SCPA) owns and operates public seaport and intermodal facilities in Charleston, Greer, Dillon, and Georgetown. Our 900+ employees handle cargo, operate and maintain cargo handling equipment, manage port facilities and operations, and support the port system in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.

Job Summary

The assignment is scheduled for May 22nd through July 28th, 2023. Responsibilities may allow for part-time continuation during the Fall (September through November) commensurate with performance and/or the Spring (January through May). A minimum GPA of 3.3 is required. We prefer students currently in their Junior or Senior year working toward a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management (will accept a Business Administration degree with a focus on logistics). Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and time management skills are necessary. The candidate will be using systems such as PeopleSoft and the Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Visio, etc.) in addition to other required job function software.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing, planning, and implementing daily strategies
  • People Soft time entry
  • Learn Scheduling Coordination for current employees
  • Record rail data and log data in the NS system
  • Respond to Customer/Steamship Line emails
  • Shadow AGS clerks
  • Work within Driver’s Assistance
  • Shoe/Twist Lock assistance on rail cars

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Learn Port specific radio communication
  • Work with the Terminal Manager to input and understand rail volume summaries

Candidate Requested Job Responsibilities

  • Learn Port specific supply chain and logistics terminology in order to incorporate that knowledge in front of established employees
  • Understand Port specific challenges and issue resolution within the supply chain
  • Gain an understanding of the large terminal operations, learning the requirements to become successful in the supply chain

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
  • High school diploma and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with upperclassman status.
  • A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required to operate a Ports Authority-owned licensed motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with full Microsoft Office suite
  • Completion of Supply Chain Management Course Curriculum

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push and pull
  • Vision is required to analyze and process various forms and documents utilized within the framework of performing assigned tasks
  • Hearing is required to adequately perform telecommunication functions
  • Ability to verbally communicate clearly with co-workers
