Environmental Management Job description

SC Ports Authority (SCPA) owns and operates public seaport and intermodal facilities in Charleston, Greer, Dillon, and Georgetown. Our 900+ employees handle cargo, operate and maintain cargo handling equipment, manage port facilities and operations, and support the port system in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.

Requirements

  • Assignments include projects to cultivate technical, writing, communication, and team-building skills.
  • The diversity of projects creates a variety of opportunities for the intern to gain exposure to
  • work for a major economic driver for the State of South Carolina. The specific assignments would be
  • primarily located at SCPA Headquarters assisting the SCPA Environmental Manager and

Engineering Team with tasks related to the design, construction, and inspection of ongoing projects as well as ongoing operations and maintenance activities. The selected intern will perform the following general activities:

  • · Assist with environmental permitting aspects for SCPA-planned development projects
  • · Assist with internal stormwater and spill prevention activities
  • · Assisting with the development of process improvement for routine inspections
  • · Assist the engineering staff with environmental regulatory requirements
  • · Review historic environmental documentation and research emerging technologies that have
  • the potential to improve the environmental initiatives of the SCPA
  • · Site inspections at ongoing projects for environmental compliance
  • · Attend and participate in project meetings
  • · Accounting and budgeting tasks

Summary

Engineering and Facilities is seeking a college or rising college student who is studying environmental sciences,

environmental policy/management, other natural or physical sciences, or Civil, Environmental,

Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Candidates shall be attending or are enrolled to attend an

accredited college or university. Strong writing, editing and graphic communication skills,

organizational and time management skills; ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of

programs, office equipment, and the internet. Must deal effectively with the public and varying levels of

management.

This assignment will last from May 22nd through July 28th, 2023.
