Maintenance Technician Job description
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 1, Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2, or Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 3) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant (s).
Trades experience is preferred but not required. Starting pay based on experience.
Cruise Terminal Maintenance position - experience preferred: Building Engineer, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Floor Care, or General Maintenance.
Road Maintenance position - experience preferred: Roadway Construction, Drainage Construction, Fencing, Carpentry, Heavy Equipment Operator, CDL license, Mowing using Heavy Equipment, and Tractor Mounted Boom Mower.
Starting pay up to $23.48/hour - $48,838.00/year, based on experience. Overtime opportunities. Premium Pay is $1.50/hour.
Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 1 is WS 210.
Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 is WS 212.
Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 3 is WS 214.

Job Concepts
The function of Work:
To assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Direct from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
May be used by all Port Authorities.
Job Distinctions:
This differs from Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 by the absence of sufficient knowledge and skill to operate equipment and machinery and the ability to perform maintenance tasks.
Examples of Work
Becomes skilled in the operation of equipment used at the Port's facilities, such as dump trucks, bush hog tractor, forklifts, dozers, belts, stackers, conveyors, and front-end loaders used in the maintenance of the Port's office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, and grounds.
Assists in pulling and installing crossties and repairing railroad tracks when needed.
Assists in re-railing railcars that have derailed.
Required to work around the waterfront including cargo-handling areas where ships are being loaded and railcars and trucks are being unloaded.
Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
Assists in tasks such as grass cutting, shoveling, minor carpentry, welding, or plumbing repairs and general upkeep of the grounds and facility.
