Maintenance Technician Job description

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical and functional problems with equipment for repairs
  • Service and repair all port equipment including forklifts, cranes, man lifts, loaders, conveyor belt systems, mechanical motor drives, gearboxes, etc.
  • Service both gasoline and diesel motors
  • Service equipment in conjunction with the work order system
  • Must have a general knowledge of or be willing to operate all equipment (forklifts, loaders, man lifts, etc.)
  • Design and fabricate components using ac/dc welding and acetylene torch-cutting equipment
  • Fabricate steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts, assemblies, objects, structures, etc.
  • Finish, prime, and paint steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts, assemblies, objects, structures, etc.
  • Perform arc welding, brazing, TIG welding, MIG welding, spot welding, etc. as required
  • Perform torch cutting, air-arc cutting, mechanical cutting and grinding, drilling, milling, etc. as required
  • Must be able to use the hydraulic press, hydraulic hose machine, tire changer and balancer
  • Set up materials and equipment appropriate for special projects and complete activities as time permits or as priority is established for the project
  • Must be able to understand work orders and read equipment maintenance manuals and schematics
  • Created and completed work orders when needed in SAP
  • Must be able to wear and use the following safety equipment: respirators, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, safety vest, flotation vest, and other equipment as needed
  • Must be willing to obey all port safety and environmental regulations and ensure internal and external customer service is a priority
  • Work overtime as assigned, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • All other duties as assigned by management

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent, plus 1-3 years of experience in welding is required
  • Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment and power tools
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge regarding all aspects of equipment maintenance
  • The ability and desire to learn and receive training is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required and familiarity with SAP is preferred
  • Must have strong analytical and project management skills and a high level of safety consciousness
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet TWIC security requirements
