Crane Mechanic Job description

Under the supervision of the EMT Foreman, the Crane Mechanic performs assigned tasks in an efficient and safe manner to maintain cranes, rubber tire gantry equipment and structures for adequate operation. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

JOB DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Responsible for the mechanical upkeep of equipment and structures, such as:

* Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic inspections/repairs.

* Repairs hydraulic lines, valves, cylinders, pumps and gears.

* Repairs gear reducers, fans, bearings, clutches, wheels, brake chains, piping, drums, cables and sheaves.

* Sheet metal repairs.

* Steel layout and fabrication.

2. Performs miscellaneous burning, welding, and other assigned tasks.

3. Troubleshoots, repairs, or rebuilds internal combustion engines.

4. Repairs and replaces air, hydraulic and electrical systems, braking, drive, steering systems, and mechanical drive systems.

5. Willing and able to repair equipment to eliminate the cause of downtime and its recurrence. Consult with supervisor and sets up preventive maintenance procedures. Capable of resolving all problems relating to mechanical parameters.

6. Assist in the training of other employees on the finer points of the mechanical trade and practices requiring the highest skill and knowledge to include electrical theories and practices.

7. Plan select, and order materials, tools, and equipment required for jobs.

8. Maintains a safe and clean working environment.

9. Interprets technical manuals and reads blueprints.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work well with other employees required. Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations required. Perform manual labor involving bending, kneeling, climbing, walking, pushing, and pulling. Ability to read blueprints and interprets technical manuals. Ability to operate welding machines, burning machines, forklifts, mechanical hand tools, etc., safely and efficiently. Vision requirements: Visual acuity of 20/40 with or without corrective lenses for each eye, the minimum depth perception of 6/9, and minimum peripheral vision of 70 degrees for each eye. The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels of administration including immediate supervisor, management and co-workers required.

Education and/or Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Steel fabrication and mechanical aptitude, and experience in mechanical equipment maintenance.

Other Requirements:

Must meet the criteria for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
