Crane Mechanic Job description
Perform duties to maintain, repair, and upgrade heavy lift equipment including, but not limited to: Gantry, Container, and Mobile Cranes. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, and methodical troubleshooting in a manner that minimizes downtime. Maintain, test, and repair associated system components and controls.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
- Analyze diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical malfunctions and make necessary repairs as efficiently as possible in support of operations.
- Utilize blueprints/ schematic diagrams associated with industrial mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic controls to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment.
- Must have computer skills that are utilized to process troubleshooting and repairs in equipment’s electronics, instruments, fixtures, and wiring.
- Encourage and follow safe work practices and safety policies and regulations.
- Monitor and inspect equipment for proper function and safe operation.
- Analyze equipment malfunctions and diagnose mechanical failures and problems.
- Determine parts, materials, tools, methods, and services needed for project work.
- Clean and disassemble equipment components.
- Perform preventative maintenance on the above equipment/systems and communicate with the supervisor to schedule needed repairs.
- Must be able to perform, laser alignment of shaft-driven equipment.
- Must be able to operate shop drill press, power tools, forklifts, torque wrench, etc.
- Must be able to use a variety of test equipment such as laser tachometer, multimeter, and engine pressure test equipment.
- Perform some small-scale welding and burning as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of experience in equipment and vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and repair is required.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required.
- Must be able to perform basic computer functions.
- Comprehensive knowledge regarding equipment and preventative and corrective maintenance is required.
- Welding experience is preferred.
- Skills and experience are required to troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, rebuild, replace, reassemble, and adjust equipment components and systems.
- Must provide own hand tools, with sockets, and wrenches up to one and a quarter-inch size.
- Ongoing training in areas of specialty is a must.
- Overtime, holidays, and weekend work will be required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet TWIC security requirements.
- Must be able to effectively use all PPE equipment and lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be comfortable working at heights up to 200 feet on occasion.
