Key Responsibilities:

As a Machine Maintenance Repair Technician you will work in the fast-paced San Francisco Technical Operation department. The Machine Maintenance Repair (T-Skill) Technician plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. The T-Skill Technician should have strong working knowledge of construction and operation of machine shop equipment.
  • Must be capable of operating fifty percent (50%) of major machine tools in a machine shop
  • Must have familiarity with preventive maintenance and the TPM Program
  • Able to realign equipment to meet original manufacturers' tolerances
  • Able to troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, reassemble and test equipment for proper tolerance and operational capabilities
  • Able to manufacture replacement parts
  • Able to read blueprints
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic control units and systems
  • Works with minimal supervision
T-Skill Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority. Technicians may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority.Machinist Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues.

What’s needed to succeed:

  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent
  • 2 years apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job experience
  • 2+ years experience with CNC, PLC, Electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, troubleshooting and repair
  • Read, understand, and use electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, and parts layouts
  • Must be familiar with, and understand the Universal Plumbing Code (UPC)
  • Must be familiar with Facility electrical 480 VAC 3 phase, 220 VAC 3 phase, 22oVAC and 120VAC single phase
  • Must be able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs
  • Must have excellent organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull
  • Mobility requirements include lifting, carrying, crawling, and ladder climbing
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid US driver's license (revoked, suspended, or expired are not considered valid)
  • In addition to passing United's background investigation and pre-employment testing, the candidate must clear a criminal history check in order to acquire and retain the credentials necessary for the position
  • Must be available to work any shift that is assigned to you within a 24-hour/day, 7 day/week operation which can include late nights, early hours, weekends and holidays
  • Employees may bid for schedules several times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Overtime available/required depending upon operational need
