About South Carolina Ports Authority

As a top 10 U.S. container port, SC Ports promotes, develops and facilitates waterborne commerce to meet the current and future needs of its customers, and for the economic benefit of the citizens and businesses of South Carolina. At 52 feet, SC Ports is home to the deepest harbor on the U.S. East Coast.

SC Ports owns and operates the Port of Charleston, Port of Georgetown, Inland Port Greer and Inland Port Dillon. SC Ports has invested more than $2 billion in port infrastructure in recent years, ensuring we remain globally competitive.

In March 2021, SC Ports opened the country’s newest container terminal, the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal, adding 700,000 TEUs of cargo capacity and an additional berth to the East Coast port market. Wando Welch Terminal has 15 ship-to-shore cranes with 155 feet of lift height working ships in 2022.

The Inland Port Greer expansion project is underway to enhance rail infrastructure, increase the terminal’s container capacity, expand the chassis yard and add two operations buildings. Looking ahead, South Carolina Ports will initiate construction on the Navy Base Intermodal Facility and inner harbor barge infrastructure project.

SC Ports ensures the efficient movement of cargo between South Carolina and global markets, serving as a vital economic engine for the Southeast. Port operations create 1 in 10 S.C. jobs and generate a $63.4 billion economic impact on South Carolina each year.
