Accounting and Auditing Services Job description

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. And we’re back (in a big way).

We’re the airline that’s always done things a little differently. Our way. The Virgin way. For us, flying is so much more than simply taking off and landing (although we understand that is quite important). It’s about going the extra mile, in the air and on the ground, to create authentic experiences that put our guests firmly at the heart of everything we do.

What you’ll be doing:

This is an exciting, newly created position that sits within the Group Finance division. The objective of the Treasury Accountant role is to provide timely and accurate financial results and analysis relating to the Group portfolio of aircraft, property & other leases, and debts. This will include a focus on developing new processes, which support the overall Group Finance objective of ensuring strong financial governance and controls. In addition, the role will support the Group Reporting team with the statutory reporting obligations of the Group and Velocity entities.

The Group Reporting team is a highly functional technical accounting and statutory reporting team that provides quality financial reporting to the Group, and specialized accounting over complex portfolios including Treasury and Velocity.

Duties include:

  • Month-end accounting for the Group Leasing and Debt portfolio
  • Assist in the development of financial processes to support the Group Leasing and Debt portfolio
  • Proactively engage with the Group Reporting team to ensure deliverables are met on time
  • Assist in the preparation of notes and financial statement mapping for Group statutory accounts
  • Engage with external auditors to facilitate audit requirements
  • Financial analysis

Who we’re looking for:

  • CPA/ CA qualified
  • At least three years of post-graduate technical accounting experience
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills and successfully communicating highly complex accounting issues to the wider finance and other internal teams
  • The ability to collaborate with and influence key stakeholders of the role, including stakeholders across Finance and the business
  • Intermediate-advanced excel skills

This is a hybrid role, with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Our office is based at Southbank in Brisbane, by the Southbank train station. There is also access to discounted car parking.

What you’ll get from us:

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to);

  • Heavily discounted air travel for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • Flexible working arrangements (including work hours and working from home)
  • Discounts on travel insurance, car hire, accommodation and experiences worldwide
  • Discounted Virgin Australia Lounge membership
  • Hospitality, retail, technology, beauty services and wellness discounts
  • Wellness support, including the betterme digital well-being platform
  • A comprehensive Employee Assistance Program, which offers confidential coaching and support from qualified professionals for all aspects of life – physical, mental, social and financial
  • Dress for Your Day – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever is appropriate for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you
