Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, of Environmental Services, this position participates in the environmental management program at the airport focused on ensuring environmental compliance and reliability. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Participates in the delivery of the GTAA’s ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management System, including but not limited to tracking of targets, auditing and system documentation.
  • Participates in the delivery of the Environmental Compliance Audit program.
  • Supports the delivery of the Stormwater Management Program including but not limited to: performing outdoor sampling activities, report writing, attending meetings, and other related activities.
  • Performs analysis of changing environmental legislation to ensure GTAA’s continuing environmental compliance.
  • Provides guidance on environmental emergency planning and response

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education in a field related to the environment.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in the environmental management field
  • Auditing experience will be considered an asset
  • Valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s License
  • Able to obtain a “D” Airside Vehicles Operator’s Permit (AVOP) within 30 days of appointment is required
  • Able to obtain Confined Space certification
  • Able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills (oral, written and listening) and must be able to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, demonstrate tact, good judgment, initiative and discretion
  • Knowledge of: the practices and problems as related to airport and aircraft operations; the relevant environmental Codes of Practice, Guidelines, Regulations and Acts
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate environmental data and to recommend an appropriate course of action
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling programs
  • Ability to use business software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook), Oracle, SCADA system, and GIS system.
  • Environmental auditing skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (utility holes, sewer holes, catch-basins, etc) and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to be on-call

The GTAA is a private not-for-profit corporation and a federally regulated employer. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirements for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA has also suspended the application of the mandatory vaccination requirement in its COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. However, GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
