Air Traffic Controller Job description
Delta Air Lines’ Operations and Customer Center (OCC) is the “heartbeat” and nerve center of Delta’s worldwide operations and is responsible for all tactical and strategic decision-making for every flight. Air Traffic Management (ATM) serves as the liaison and advocates the FAA on all Air Traffic Control matters to garner maximum efficiency of the airspace to serve our customers.
ATM is building out our team to support an increasingly complex operating environment and continue to be an industry leader in partnerships with the FAA. This role will lead a team to ensure the successful conversion of mission-critical frontline tools from legacy data to new FAA System Wide Information Management (SWIM) data as well as provide necessary IT support and guidance to our analytical and industry affairs teams. An ideal candidate is enthusiastic about building relationships, has air traffic management or airline operations experience, and has a strong IT background.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as manager and primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on all matters related to FAA data, including the new SWIM data program
- Represent Delta with internal/external stakeholders (including FAA) to influence data/technology priorities, processes, and strategic goals
- Maintain and establish effective relationships and feedback loops between our frontline customers, leaders, and technology partners
- Drive goals of continuous improvement and maximizing operational reliability through effective technology services and apps
- Join our commitment to sustainability and Our Flight to Net Zero by driving fuel efficiency in the National Airspace System
- Support a 24/7 operation as required
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)
- Candidates for this position should have at minimum a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant work experience in IT, computer science, or related field
- Must be capable of working under pressure, managing multiple tasks simultaneously
- Proven ability to manage and motivate others
- Strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to translate information into a logical and actionable story
- Experience with MS Office is required
- Embrace diverse people, thinking, and styles
- Consistently make safety and security, of self and others, the priority
- Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by the date of hire to be considered for a U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.
WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)
- Knowledge of information technology: Cloud Computing, AWS, Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of IT concepts such as Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, ITIL, Change Management, BCP
- Project management experience
- The previous airline, Air Traffic, or FAA experience
- Knowledge of SWIM architecture, and/or experience with TFMS, TFDM, TBFM and other FAA source systems
- Experience in data analysis, visualization and presentations
- Willingness to travel for industry meetings
