Key Responsibilities:

Provide 24x7 engineering technical support for the United Airlines worldwide fleet of aircraft (shift work is required)· Diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies a variety of issues, primarily for aircraft structures, but will also delve into interiors, flight controls, systems and avionics· Investigate maintenance problems during line and overnight maintenance and initiate corrective actions to return aircraft to service in a timely manner· Provide engineering assistance to maintenance consisting of technical data research, process development, and procedure clarification and direction necessary to maintain continued airworthiness of the aircraft· Provides on-site technical support for line and base operations· Communicates with customers on technical issues, work scope recommendations, and failure investigations· Interfaces with internal and external organizations regarding specific aircraft systems issues· Provide technical support for line maintenance aircraft to ensure timely return to service· This includes designing and developing technical data for aircraft repairs and modifications· Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability and operational efficiency· Includes performing technical engineering substantiations through complex engineering analysis by hand and computer software programs· Authors and continually evaluate/improve UAL engineering processes and procedures· Develop substantiating data for aircraft equipment design/repairs through knowledge of aircraft operational characteristics, materials and processes· Responsible for the investigation, root cause analysis (and development of a CAP) for chronic aircraft issues as they pertain to aircraft systems· Interface with industry, regulatory and/or governmental agencies to establish polices and procedures as required· This position develops potentially complex solutions and implementation plans, project justification, cost/benefit analysis, management of project implementation, technical support and obtaining FAA approvals as required· Provide engineering technical support for the United Airlines worldwide fleet of aircraft in a line environment

What’s needed to succeed (Required Qualifications):

  • · B.S. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace) related technical field or equivalent relative work experience
  • · Minimum of (entry to 5 years for an engineer; 3-8 years for a senior engineer) of engineering experience or a similar role elsewhere in the industry
  • · Successful candidate will have a working knowledge of airline or OEM operations
  • · Knowledge of Code of Regulations (CFRs) airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design, and operational characteristics
  • · Knowledge of aircraft systems and/or flight controls for Boeing/Airbus aircraft
  • · Ability to interpret complex and technical Engineering and OEM documents
  • · Highly detailed project development and management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems
  • · Teamwork, project management, excellent communication and analytical skills
  • · Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • · Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • · Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • · Work within specific ATA Airline Chapters
  • · Airline or Industry experience with general ATA Chapters which could encompass, aircraft systems, structures, power plant and avionics disciplines
  • · Excellent communication and technical writing ability
  • · Experience in reading FOQA data (QAR, DFDR, etc.)
  • · Knowledge of FARS (specifically parts 21, 25, 26, 43, 121, & 145)
  • · CATIA/AUTOCAD experience
