Aviation Safety Job description

On Board, Services is seeking a self-directed individual who has demonstrated operational experience with a strong awareness of the Catering operations. They must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that are effective and in line with the Rules of The Road. They must be able to communicate upward and on behalf of the OBS organization. They must have a keen sense of operations and a passion for compliance. They will be responsible for completing all established safety, flight, and kitchen audits supporting continuous improvement. This individual will keep a watch over all catering activities at a station level and deliver a high standard of the ramp, food, and aircraft safety for Catering Operations. They will report directly to the OBS Safety Manager. They will have frequent contact with Director, Managing Director, and Vice President level leaders.

  • Conduct safety observations of both facility and ramp operations and provides corrective action feedback to mitigate safety hazards and risks
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of the Delta Ground Operations Manual, the Safety Policies & Procedures Manual and the Airport Operations Ramp Procedures
  • Conducts safety audits of Catering Personnel behaviors and submits audits for trending and process compliance review
  • Provides on-the-spot training or corrective behavior training to mitigate risks
  • Supports the completion of Incident Summary Investigations for Safety and Security incidents, by collecting data, photos, statements and other relevant information
  • Communicates required prevention steps by providing Safety Alerts, Safety Acknowledgement Forms, and Shift Briefings to unit management
  • Liaises with ACS, OCC, ACC, Suppliers and OBS leaders in cases on safety-related issues
  • Regularly attends and participates in various meetings and safety briefings
  • Identifies and tracks safety and security compliance issues
  • Performs follow-up observations and verifies implementation of corrective actions by operational areas
  • Understand all Kitchen process flows and production specifications
  • Must maintain awareness of Kitchen Departure Time compliance for optimal servicing windows
  • Work proficiently in tools such as Flight Family, FACTs, IFX, and GP4 
  • Ensures appropriate leadership level awareness of safety or compliance challenges and issues for the day
  • Expected to think and act creatively to solve constraints in the name of what is best for the Delta customer

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Candidates for this position should have at minimum a high school diploma/GED
  • Must have strong analytical and root cause analysis skills
  • A thorough understanding of data and dashboard manipulation is required 
  • Must be willing to work irregular and varying schedules (including holidays) 
  • Must have demonstrated skills and abilities to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization (frontline to executives) using a variety of tools 
  • Must possess excellent critical thinking and quality decision-making abilities
  • Must be performing satisfactorily in the present position
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles 
  • Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by the date of hire to be considered for a U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Previous Compliance experience is highly desired 
  • Thorough knowledge of Catering operations or mass kitchen and food processing/ handling is highly desired
