Aeronautical engineer Job description

Predictive Technology Engineering (PTE) at Delta’s Technical Operations currently seeks a Principal Avionics Engineer to support aircraft modifications related to data acquisition and download. This position will report to the Product Manager, Connected Aircraft Engineering and will support the ACMS Software Engineer as an SME for aircraft data availability and troubleshooting. Additionally, this position will be responsible for all documentation and substantiation for projects requiring aircraft modification including the installation of Delta Air Lines's next-generation Connected Aircraft Systems.

  • Support the ACMS Software Engineer with troubleshooting ACMS-related issues and data requests
  • Create installation documentation related to aircraft data acquisition hardware and software to support fleetwide updates
  • Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Provide support and technical knowledge to other business units as necessary
  • Be an industry technical leader in Connected Aircraft Systems and effectively develop and communicate the Delta Air Lines Connected Aircraft Systems strategy. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Candidates for this position should have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 years minimum relevant experience 
  • Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in their current positions. Also, if you are currently in an engineering role, you must apply to your same grade level 
  • The previous airline, military, OEM, or MRO experience with commercial aircraft is strongly preferred  
  • Must be willing to travel as required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Familiarity with using IP Connectivity links for supplemental operational purposes and associated ANSP guidance
  • Familiarity and experience with ARINC 759
  • Familiarity and experience with ARINC 429 and 717 data structures.
  • Familiarity and experience with the regulatory path for utilizing onboard user-modifiable software
  • Familiarity and experience with edge computing.

Chart the Course 

  • Ability to independently remove small roadblocks and assist team or leadership with larger obstacles  
  • Identify objectives and communicate when additional resources are required to complete objectives with senior-level team members
