London Luton Airport (LLA) is one of the UK’s busiest airports despite Covid-19, carrying 58 million passengers in the past five years.

DEPARTMENT: Technical Services (Motor Transport)

REPORTING TO: Motor Transport Supervisor

HOURS: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:

To provide level 1 (entry-level) support and assistance with respect to the service, inspection, maintenance, and repair of London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL) vehicle and plant fleet.

Employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to current legislation and LLAOL’s Policies.

Carry out refueling tasks in line with LLA and third parties' needs, utilizing the company fuel tanker and/or by providing technical escort (ADR).

Hours of work: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, may include some weekend working as operationally required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Recognized time-served qualification in motor vehicle repairs and maintenance (level 1).
  • Minimum of four years of motor vehicle repairs and maintenance experience.
  • Be able to carry out pre-use inspections.
  • Current full driving license (UK).
  • A current vocational LGV/PCV driving license would be desirable but not essential as training may be given.
  • ADR (Hazards by Road) qualification is desirable but not essential as training will be given.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill level at the interview.
  • Must be very well organized and able to work methodically within defined processes and pay attention to detail.
  • Have a good understanding of current Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation and able to work to current SSOW.
  • Work well as part of a team and be able to work unsupervised.
  • Form part of an out-of-hours call-out rota work including weekends if operationally necessary.
  • Be able to use Computer-based systems including QFM.
  • Be able to demonstrate basic Welding and fabrication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To assist in the Inspection and minor repairs of vehicles and plants to LLAOL’s standards and criteria, in accordance with relevant legislation as directed by the Workshop Management. This will include assisting with and diagnosing minor faults and repairs
  • relating to all vehicles and plants and communicating condition reports orally, using QFM, and in writing.
  • Identify and report all potential faults or non-compliance affecting operational and roadworthy capability, notifying supervision accordingly (within competency level).
  • Interpret and implement technical service data and manufacturer’s instructions (where applicable within skill set).
  • Initiate and complete computerized work orders utilizing QFM Fleet Management System and manual systems as applicable.
  • Conduct off-site inspections (within skill level), assist with roadside breakdowns and recovery of defective or damaged vehicles, using suitable equipment.
  • Complete and verify all documentation as defined within the Motor Transport operational policies and procedures.
  • Escort third parties where applicable, as requested by MT Management
  • Be responsible for the tire changing and wheel balancing Machines and tire bay.
  • Recommend any improvements that may be considered to improve the vehicle's economic, environmental, and or safe operation.
  • Undertake training where required
  • Any other duties as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • The candidate will have a positive outlook and attitude, will be capable of identifying and resolving simple problems, and possess good organizational skills.
  • As a prospective candidate, you will be capable of working on your own initiative and as part of a team.
  • You will be task-oriented, able to communicate well with all stakeholders, be customers focused, and capable of delivering excellent service against agreed organizational objectives.
  • The nature of the operation demands an adaptable persona, willing to learn and encompass new tasks as well as being keen in assisting the development of both the department and operation as a whole.
  • As the role involves IT-based tasks a good working knowledge of computer systems and programs is ideal.
  • The candidate must live within one hour of travel time from the airport and have a five-year checkable work history.
