The Manager Maintenance Operations Center works in the Network Operations Center (NOC) and provides direct supervision to Maintenance Controllers. The Manager Maintenance Operations Center is a strategic thinker who looks forward to working directly with NOC Leaders.

Job Summary

Provides Direct Leadership to the Southwest Airlines Maintenance Controllers. Represents Tech Ops in all Bridge Team Processes in the NOC. Provides strategic Tech Ops information at the Situation Room Conference calls. Provides legendary Customer Service by ensuring the day-to-day maintenance requirements are satisfied in the most efficient and timely manner to support the scheduled Operation.


  • Interacts directly with Network Operations Center (NOC) Leadership (Network Director, Chief Dispatcher, Chief Pilot On-call, etc) and other operating groups within Southwest Airlines to ensure the safest, most efficient operation in the Industry
  • Acts as liaison to ensure coordination and cooperation in making tactical operational decisions that may have a significant impact on planned maintenance requirements
  • Performs duties necessary to assist Manager Maintenance Operations/Control in administering On-Call Maintenance providers
  • Coordination and supervision of the use of On-call and Emergency Maintenance Providers
  • Ensures adherence to all policies and procedures related to the responsibilities of the Maintenance Controller
  • Complies with directives set forth by the Sr. Director Maintenance Operations Center
  • Appoints appropriate personnel to assume duties and responsibilities in his or her absence
  • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed in this description
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee Leaders

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to lead and mentor a diverse group of highly technical personnel
  • Ability to adhere to SWA Maintenance Program policies and procedures while working under tight time constraints
  • Thorough knowledge and operating background in aircraft systems
  • Proficient in the use of maintenance reference material including Manufacturers' Maintenance Manuals, Structural Repair Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, etc
  • Proficient in MEL and CDL procedures
  • Must be able to clearly communicate information and instructions verbally and in writing


  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Preferred: Advanced Degree


  • Required: 5 years of experience on large commercial aircraft
  • Required: 2 years of management or supervisory experience
  • Required: 9 years of equivalent experience in lieu of degree. An advanced degree can substitute for 2 years of work experience
  • Preferred: Boeing aircraft maintenance experience
  • Preferred: Maintenance Operations experience
  • Licensing/Certification
  • Required: A&P License

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications

  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
