Airport Engineer Job description
To enable the delivery of high-quality, reliable service to passengers, tenants, and other internal/external customers, through effective and efficient maintenance of the airport's mechanical assets. This includes completion of work in accordance with prevailing LLAOL processes & contributing towards the continuous improvement of the maintenance service.
To work closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer supporting planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance services to the airport plant, systems, equipment, and facilities.
Technicians may be required to monitor the work quality of contract maintenance providers and act as a “mentor/buddy” for LLAOL mechanical and plumbing staff.
SHIFT PATTERN: Rotating Double Days
HOURS OF WORK/ ROLE PROFILE:
- Monday – Friday 0600 - 1430 & 1400 – 2230
- 40 Hours per week with ½ hour, unpaid mid-shift break
- 25 Days Annual Leave (Excluding any Bank Holidays)
- Mechanical Team calls out support
- Salary £42,000 Per Annum
For 3 months the role will be working day shift Monday – Friday 0800 – 1630 with a ½ hour, unpaid mid-shift break to support site and plant familiarity after which point it will move to the double day, rotating shift. Once on the rotating pattern, there will be a need to cover mechanical call-outs at times when there are no Mechanical Technicians on site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Undertake planned or reactive maintenance work on engineering assets ensuring optimum serviceability which meets agreed service levels and provides a trouble-free operational environment, applying the skills and knowledge required for the task.
- Work closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer performing remedial engineering tasks.
- In conjunction with the Senior Mechanical Engineer identify upgrade or improvement opportunities associated with LLA mechanical systems.
- Undertake in-depth fault finding on mechanical systems identifying route causes and propose improvements to eliminate reoccurrence.
- Undertake servicing, fault finding, and repairs to LLA LTHW combustion equipment.
- Undertake inspections of the LLA BMS system and propose control strategy improvements.
- Perform repairs or replacements of BMS control devices such as actuators and sensors.
- Provide call-out cover at times when there are no Mechanical Technicians on shift. (This will be the primary responsibility of the late shift working technician).
- Support training of the plumbing team on mechanical services.
- Maintain good communication levels with the Senior Mechanical Engineer and Shift Supervisors ensuring priority works are completed in a timely manner to an excellent standard.
- Undertake first-line response to plumbing issues in the absence of the plumbing team.
- Use prevailing LLAOL IT and asset management systems as required. This includes receiving & closing assigned work orders. Use maintenance system data to understand asset performance.
- Ensure appropriate engineering and operating records are updated to meet business, regulatory & manufacturer requirements.
- Operate and promote working practices that ensure a safe working environment for self and others, contributing to the development of a safety culture and adhering to mandatory regulations & safety procedures.
- Engage proactively in any work associated with delivering performance improvements within the engineering environment.
- Proactively work toward world-class plant rooms by ensuring high standards of housekeeping and improvements are implemented within work areas and plant rooms.
- Proactively upgrade the skills of the mechanical technicians to facilitate the maintenance and operation of existing and new assets.
- Prepare materials list and request quotations from suppliers to support ordering of goods & materials associated with maintenance works and management of onsite spares.
- Proactively identify and report to TSD’s Senior Mechanical Engineer and the on-Shift Supervisor any H&S concerns or unsafe working practices.
- This list is not exhaustive, and you may be asked by your Line Manager to fulfill duties not listed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
The candidate will have a positive outlook and pro-active attitude will be capable of identifying and resolving problems and possess good organizational skills. As a prospective candidate, you will be capable of working on your own initiative as well as being part of a team. You will be task-oriented, able to communicate well with all stakeholders, be customers focused, and capable of delivering excellent service against agreed organizational objectives.
- We are looking for flexible, creative and enthusiastic individuals with a good working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Educated to a minimum of BTEC ONC/HNC in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Able to fault find on mechanical systems and propose resolutions to failures.
- Able to demonstrate that through formal training or apprenticeship schemes and/or practical experience has gained underpinning technical knowledge and skills in engineering.
- Experienced with commercial/domestic gas and oil heating installations
- Gas-safe registration is desirable but not essential.
- Ensure work is completed “Right First Time”
- Accurately record works on the required paperwork and web-based system ensuring the right information is fed back to the manager
- Must have good interpersonal skills when dealing with representatives of service partners and other LLAOL departments.
- Must be physically fit and possess high levels of teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to working as part of a team and working on own initiative
- Challenges existing standards with a view to improving them
- Full clean driving license
