Aeronautical engineer Job description
The successful candidate serves as an engineer within Delta's TechOps Engineering organization. The tasks associated with this role are specific to the engineering group and include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Fleet Avionics Engineering - Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS)
- Provides aircraft engineering support to a variety of internal customers and outside suppliers to support daily operations and long-term reliability/cost effectiveness.
- Reviews recommend and implements manufacturer’s service bulletins and other correspondence to affected fleets.
- Identify and develop solutions to maintain aircraft safety, reliability, and capability.
- Research, develop, and manage avionics equipment installation and retrofit projects. Includes on-site verification of project work instructions (Mock-Ups).
- Maintains compliance with applicable FAA regulations and Delta's Technical Operations Policy and Procedures (TOPP) pertaining to the development of equipment alterations.
- Provides status for aircraft issues through various briefings and documentation.
- Supports maintaining the configuration and installation of Avionics software for Delta’s fleets.
- Supports shop, hangar, and line maintenance in troubleshooting and providing corrective actions, including repair or deviation documentation for assigned discipline.
- Maintains aircraft cybersecurity protocols, policies, and procedures.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)
- Candidates for this position should have:
- B.S. in Engineering or Sciences.
- 3+ Years’ experience. The previous airline, military, OEM, or MRO experience with commercial aircraft is preferred.
- Computer programming or software development skills with Matlab, C++, and Python are desirable.
- Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in their current positions.
- Accepts personal responsibility for assignments and acts with a sense of urgency when initiating the necessary steps to complete them. Asks appropriate questions to ensure a complete understanding of the task/objective and how solutions impact safety, schedules, and budgets.
- Recognizes that shifting priorities and changing objectives are normal in a business environment. Able to develop data under guidance or based on similar work in the past and/or provides feasible solutions to problems with low uncertainty.
- Demonstrates to team and leader that when tasks are assigned, timeline and quality commitments are met to the established goal. Approaches work with an open mind, understands he/she will have limitations and accepts feedback for development. Acts with integrity and shows the value for others.
- Project management skills and must be capable of working in a team environment to creatively solve technical problems.
- Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Must have good technical writing skills to effectively generate detailed engineering documents using excellent problem-solving skills based on analytical methods.
- Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)
- Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering experience with an Avionics focus.
- Ability to interpret analytical reports, FAR's, AD’s, and other engineering documents/drawings.
- Understanding of Aircraft Field Loadable Software support and implementation
