Security Screener Job description
As an Engineering Technician for our baggage team, you will work as part of a fast-paced, highly skilled team, providing preventative and reactive maintenance for a wide range of baggage handling equipment. You will play an important role in keeping our passengers safe and delivering the best airport service in the world. Our baggage technicians are quick thinking, proactive and skilled engineers, working with a range of screening and conveying equipment, to minimize security risks and ensure the smooth transportation of luggage.
Joining Heathrow Engineering will give you broad experience across electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems, with the support of a world-class team of experts. You’ll be taking on vital work to keep our airport running smoothly.
Your role will involve:
- Completing planned and reactive maintenance tasks on assets, in accordance with allocated target dates, to maximize availability and meet agreed-on service levels.
- Continually improving asset performance by investigating faults or poor-performing assets and implementing appropriate remedial action.
- Completing work orders in a timely manner and accurately capturing the maintenance history (work orders, spares information and similar), also updating other records to meet business, regulatory & statutory requirements.
- Following the correct procedures and proactively spotting hazards, to reduce risk and ensure a safe working environment.
- Undertaking all duties with consideration and demonstrating asset management best practices.
These skills are essential:
- City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in an Electrical discipline
- Strong practical skills, gained within an electrical/electronic engineering environment
- Demonstrable analytical skills with sound problem-solving ability
- Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- A full UK driving license
- Experience working with detection equipment - although this is not essential
