Airport Engineer Job description

Your role will involve: 

  • Enabling Heathrow’s passengers to experience the best airport service in the world, through maintaining a broad range of electrical equipment.
  • Working in a fast-paced, reactive environment to reduce asset downtime quickly and efficiently.
  • Investigating faulty or poor-performing assets, identifying improvements and implementing meaningful change to improve the airport experience.
  • Keeping records up to date, for example, the maintenance history of our assets, to create efficiency and meet Heathrow’s regulatory requirements.
  • Showcasing your passion for ‘doing the right thing’, by proactively spotting hazards, reducing risks and creating a safer environment for all.
  • Carrying out all duties with consideration and respect for best practices and continuous improvement.

These skills are essential: 

  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an Electrical discipline.
  • Strong practical skills, gained within an electrical engineering environment.
  • Experience working with high voltage assets is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrable analytical skills with sound problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Joining Engineering means taking on a role at the heart of Heathrow’s operation. Our Engineering team is the lifeblood of Heathrow. We ensure the airport is always running smoothly, keeping passengers and planes moving in a living city that is always open.

Our team touches on all aspects of airport life – from water to energy, rail to roads, baggage systems to runways. The scale of what we do is vast, spanning mechanical, electrical, water, civil, rail and environmental disciplines. Together we are responsible for the performance of 500,000 assets worth £14bn. That means there is always a wide range of interesting development, construction and maintenance projects to get involved with.
