Executive Job description

The Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for all sourcing of products and services for JetBlue. The Director leads the development and execution of the strategic direction for all sourcing efforts and works cross-functionally with senior-level leadership. The Director ensures that the corporate sourcing strategy achieves optimal value, is aligned to JetBlue’s strategic goals and is compliant with all requirements, internal controls and regulations. The Director develops and maintains ongoing relationships with business partners, internal departments, and leadership, including establishing and building open lines of communication. The Director provides high-quality customer service in a matrix structure with a commitment to meeting and exceeding expectations.

The Director enjoys interacting daily with crewmembers at various levels within and outside the organization while influencing others to meet a wide range of business objectives. The Director should be a confident negotiator who partners well across the organization to continuously drive improvement in business partner performance to exceed contractual and business expectations. The Director communicates progress, resolves key decisions and incorporates feedback for the overall program

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop supply management and channel strategy
  • Oversee process and compliance with the source-to-payment channel strategy
  • Lead complex and/or large-scale RFPs and RFIs to obtain optimal value including; negotiating complex contracts; monitoring Business Partner adherence to contracts, estimating the cost savings benefits for sourcing opportunities, and evaluating Strategic Sourcing performance metrics
  • Partner with departmental leadership (i.e. IT, Commercial, Corporate Services, etc.) to create and execute a procurement and category strategy that aligns with Company goals, policies and financial expectations
  • Proactively develop and maintain Business Partner relationships in a way that delivers business results, tracks KPIs and ensures accountability (performance management) while upholding the JetBlue Values
  • Identify future sourcing opportunities to obtain optimal value for JetBlue including estimating the cost savings benefits for sourcing opportunities and evaluating Strategic Sourcing performance metrics (KPIs)
  • Proactively support team of Managers including prioritizing and allocating resources based on Customer priorities
  • Create and execute a sourcing and category plan that aligns to Company goals, policies and financial expectations
  • Partner with business units in budget development resulting from external spend to minimize spend and agree on opportunities while collaborating with FP&A on the category spend to ensure budget compliance
  • Ensure that purchases are made with a thorough analysis of relevant supply in the marketplace, by maintaining a working knowledge of Customer specific trends, products and providers, including industry issues, cost drivers, product/service pricing, market conditions and economic indicators, and identifying new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary
  • Support JetBlue Business Partner diversity initiatives
  • Partner with departmental leadership to ensure goods and services (i.e. corporate supplies, logistics, consulting, etc.) are available with sufficient inventory levels and contracts and payments are proactively reconciled
  • Evaluate control points for Strategic Sourcing processes including partnering with other internal stakeholders (FP&A, Legal, Audit) to evaluate key metrics that focus on continuous improvement and drive efficiencies
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience
  • Seven (7) years of sourcing experience
  • Five (5) years of leadership experience
  • Expert knowledge of proper sourcing practices (i.e., Strategic Sourcing Practice, Procure to Pay)
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills involving complex analytics
  • Available for moderate overnight travel (30%)
  • Able to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or related discipline
  • Seven (7) years leadership experience
  • Airline procurement experience
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Professional Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Proficient with Supply Chain related software (i.e. Ariba, Clarity and SAP)
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM)
  • Prior experience in customer service, operations, and/or hospitality; airline marketing or customer service experience
  • Knowledge of airline industry, including internal functions as well as regulatory requirements of external agencies (FAA, DOT, etc.)

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
