Airport Planner Job description

Primary team member of the Crew Planning Team, delivering industry-leading schedule reliability, productivity and workforce commitment through cost-effective staffing levels and crew schedules which balance labor costs, bargaining agreements and FARs.


  • Contributes to providing analysis to assist with the forecasting of crew staffing requirements based on flight schedules to ensure the required flight-ops and in-flight talent is hired, trained and ready to execute when needed.
  • Assists in the management of Crew Staffing and Pairings monthly with the Crew Planning Team (more often when forecasting is needed). Ensure staffing and pairings create reliable execution to our customers, comply with labor agreements and deliver the lowest total cost.
  • Evolve Spirit’s crew base structure to operate reliably at the lowest total cost as we grow, including modeling alternatives, recommending the most cost-effective structure and executing through base bid additions and awards.
  • Assists Crew Bid Administration Team with monthly crewmember schedule bidding and award process. Assist in managing and executing the pilot and flight attendant system position vacancy bid process.
  • Contributes to Crew Planning and Crew Bid Administration teams to continuously improve processes, lower costs, reduce defects and improve workforce commitment.
  • Help establish and maintain effective communications with Marketing and Schedule Planning departments as it relates to block hours and optimizing results for future schedules. Recommend the most effective changes to the schedule development group.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g. emergencies, change in workload, rush jobs, or technical developments.)


  • Four (4) years minimum of Airline Crew Planning/Resources experience. 
  • College degree – Advanced Degree (MBA) desired.
  • Experience with SABRE/FLICA or other Crew Management Systems and Pairing Optimization software required.
  • Experience with S3RUS Pairing and Bid line Optimizer preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in stressful situations.
  • Able to assist in the definition of problems/challenges using various techniques to support realistic solutions.
