Flight Instructor Job description

The Ground School Instructor provides ground instruction to initial, upgrading, transitioning and recurrent JetBlue Pilots and Gateway Select trainees. The Ground School Instructor is responsible for assisting the College of Flight Supervisor of Curriculum Development in the development, maintenance and delivery of courseware used in all ground school phases of training at the College of Flight. The Ground School Instructor works with subject-matter experts at JetBlue University to ensure all courseware is technically correct and provides instructors with the tools required to provide high-quality training.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide ground school instruction in aircraft specific and general Pilot operational subjects
  •  Assists the Curriculum Supervisor in development and maintenance of assigned curricula, and meeting all production deadlines. This includes the content of courseware materials for flight training, ground training, home-study, briefings, grade forms, etc.
  • Assist the College of Flight in maintaining publications and courseware.
  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report(SAR)
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the ability to use bowsers effectively including iOS
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer and electronic tablet devices
  • Able to read and comprehend guidance as found in required manuals
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Able to work varying schedules including weekends, evenings, holidays, and last minute drafting
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • One (1) year of previous FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, military instructional/training experience or equivalent classroom facilitation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation or related field
  • Background in airline flight operations, technical operations/maintenance, or dispatch training.
  • Commercial pilot certificate with Instrument rating, A&P certificate, or Dispatch Certificate
  • Human Factors and Safety background
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and/or Teams
  • Familiarity with curriculum development tools and software.
  • Video production and editing experience
  • Experience in program implementation
  • Teaching or instructional background

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally, 0 pounds frequently. (Sedentary)
