Based at London Stansted Airport

Permanent - Full Time (40 hours per week)

Job Purpose

To ensure that specified equipment and facilities within the Terminal Building and Satellites operate effectively to enable the delivery of a high-quality, reliable service to passengers, tenants, and other internal/external customers, through effective and efficient electrical maintenance of airport assets. This includes completion of work in accordance with prevailing MAG processes & contributing towards the continuous improvement of the maintenance service.

Duties include but are not limited to Building Services Technician (Mechanical):

  • Undertake planned or reactive maintenance work on STAL facilities ensuring optimum serviceability which meets agreed service levels and provides a trouble-free operational environment, applying the skills and knowledge required for the task. This includes inspecting assets that are not working as needed, assessing & reporting what work is required, and undertaking that work.
  • Carry out tasks that require in-depth technical competence in mechanical engineering or minor work in other disciplines which you have the skills to do.
  • Use prevailing MAG IT and work management systems (for example MAXIMO) as required. This includes receiving & closing work orders and entering accurate data. Use maintenance system data to understand individual, team & asset performance.
  • Ensure that all engineering and operating records are updated to meet business, regulatory & manufacturer requirements.
  • Operate and promote working practices that ensure a safe working environment for self and others, contributing to the development of a safety culture and adhering to mandatory regulations & safety procedures.
  • Engage proactively in any work associated with delivering performance improvements within the Terminal facilities environment.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and building maintenance team colleagues on the progress of completing work.
  • Work with others, including colleagues on a one-to-one basis to help them learn.
  • Proactively upgrade skills to facilitate the maintenance and operation of new assets being delivered into service to ensure that they are maintained in a manner that keeps them performing at an appropriate level. Any other duties as reasonably requested by the company that may be outside the standard remit of the role.
  • Undertake planned or reactive maintenance work on engineering assets within the following departments:

Building Services

  • HVAC systems including air handling units, ductwork, dampers, boilers, and chilling plant
  • Any other tasks that reasonably fall within the remit of a building services technician

To be successful in the role of Building Services Technician (Mechanical), you will need to demonstrate a flexible and helpful attitude, while assisting in the smooth running of the airport. You will need to always maintain professional standards and communicate effectively while ensuring procedures are followed in all cases. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours for Building Services Technician (Mechanical):

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Engineering qualification in a relevant subject Mech HNC/City & Guilds or equivalent – Preferable.
  • City & Guilds (6188-32) Level 3 Planned and Reactive Maintenance on Heating and Ventilating Systems or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Heating and Ventilating Craftsperson Qualification (Industrial and Commercial) (6288-31)
  • Demonstrable experience in providing mechanical building services maintenance in a complex, busy environment
  • Full and assessed knowledge of any relevant National or MAG regulations or standards
  • Completion of relevant & related skills training
  • Meets the requirements of the competence assessment process
  • Excellent working knowledge of HVAC systems, Air handling units, boilers, and chilling plants.
  • Good working knowledge of pumps, motors, compressed air systems, and other general building systems.

Additional requirements (to be either held or gained within 1 year as development provided by MAG)

  • IOSH Working Safely
  • IPAF working at height
  • Stansted ESR level 1 and 2
  • L8 Level 2
