Airport Operations Job description

Please note that this role does not meet Home Office criteria for Heathrow to offer visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. Applicants must already hold the right to work in the UK.

  • Salary: £29,120 plus a shift allowance, rising to £32,240 after 1 year of service. 
  • Shifts: Predominantly4-on-4-off shift pattern. 12 hours 25 minutes shifts consisting of 2 day and 2-night shifts.

The Airfield Operations Officer (AOO) is responsible for providing a safe and efficient operating environment for aircraft and personnel in accordance with EASA licensing requirements and Heathrow Airport standards. The role will deliver a range of duties such as airfield inspections, wildlife control, leader and marshaling services, general safety patrols, and enforcement action across the airfield.

The AOO will be a positive and proactive safety leader, engaging constructively with all stakeholders during the course of their duties, and will work to continuously improve safety and compliance on the airfield.

Your role will involve:

  • Acting as a first-line response for airfield incidents, ensuring compliance with regulations, safety instructions and Heathrow by-laws, and that incident reporting is completed.
  • Minimizing the wildlife hazard risk to aircraft by detecting, identifying and dispersing wildlife with the use of specialist equipment.
  • Inspecting and patrolling the airfield environment (maneuvering area including runways, grass areas, apron area, ramp, and roads) to ensure safe operation of the airfield.
  • Carrying out snow and ice clearance through the supervision of snow clearance teams in accordance with the Heathrow Snow Plan.
  • A good level of fitness and ability to work on foot for prolonged periods.

These skills are essential:

  • Currently obtains a full UK DVLA driving license.
  • Experience in operating in a complex, safety-critical, procedures-driven operational environment.
  • Demonstrating a collaborative, positive outlook with a desire to continuously improve safety and efficient operations. 
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to operate, to a moderate level, a range of IT products and systems, including the Microsoft Office suite of products.

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • Knowledge of Aerodrome regulation, such as that provided by ICAO, EASA, and the UK CAA.
  • Experience of Airfield Operations at other complex aerodromes.
  • Understanding of safety management systems, particularly safety culture.
